REQUIREMENTS

Auditionees who are interested in being considered for ROALD DAHL'S WILLY WONKA should prepare a 32-bar cut (about 1 minute) of a musical theatre song.

Legible sheet music must be provided for the audition pianist. No a cappella or prerecorded accompaniment will be permitted.

If you are invited to the callback, be prepared to learn a short movement combination and wear appropriate movement attire for the movement combination. Sneakers or dance shoes are okay, but no sandals or crocs.

Additionally, auditionees who are called back may also read/sing (if applicable) from the show.


GUIDELINES

ROALD DAHL'S WILLY WONKA Adult Character Descriptions:

Willy Wonka (Baritone; G2-F4): The mysterious title character. He is charming, eccentric, charismatic, playful, silly, childish, and slightly sinister. A chocolatier, who guides children and their parents on a tour of his factory, searching for someone like him to take over his candy empire. A clever child-like man who hates greed, pride, gluttony, and other “ugly” personalities. Male presenting 20’s-50’s

Grandpa Joe (Baritone; Bb2-F4): A caring, patient, and kindhearted man. Protective and loving grandfather to Charlie Bucket. He joins Charlie at Willy Wonka's factory, giving him a new burst of youthful vigor. Male Presenting 50’s-70’s

Candy Man (Baritone; A2-D4)/Phineas Trout (Baritone; B2-E4): A male actor who doubles as the jovial candy vendor selling all of Wonka’s wonderful treats, and as an energetic and wily parody of a television news reporter. Male Presenting 20’s-50’s

Mrs. Bucket (Mezzo-soprano; Bb3-D5): Charlie’s loving and nurturing mother. She is a continually positive caretaker of her elderly family members. Female Presenting 20’s-40’s

Mr. Bucket (Baritone; B2-F#4): Charlie’s loving father who is struggling to support his large family. He wants the best for his family and son, and even though life isn’t easy, Mr. Bucket stays positive. Male Presenting 20’s-40’s

Grandma Josephine (Mezzo-soprano; C4-C5): Charlie’s loving and bedridden grandmother and mother to Mr. Bucket. She has difficulty hearing in her elderly state. This actor will also be an ensemble member. Female Presenting 30’s-70’s

Grandpa George: Charlie’s loving and bedridden grandfather and father to Mrs. Bucket. This actor will also be an ensemble member. Male Presenting 30’s- 70’s

Grandma Georgina (Mezzo-soprano; C4-C5): Charlie’s loving and bedridden grandmother and mother to Mr. Bucket. This actor will also be an ensemble member. Female Presenting 30’s-70’s

Mrs. Gloop (Soprano; B3-E5): A jolly German woman with a bustling personality. Augustus Gloop's overindulgent mother. German accent encouraged. Female Presenting 20’s-50’s

Mr. Salt (Baritone; C3-A3): A wealthy British upperclassman who regularly flaunts his wealth and privilege. Father to Veruca Salt who shamelessly spoils his daughter. Male Presenting 30’s-50’s

Mr./Mrs. Beauregarde (Soprano; C4-B4): Violet’s deeply southern mother/father. A "helicopter parent" who focuses all attention on his/her daughter. She/He indulges Violet's worst competitive impulses. Male or Female Presenting 30’s-50’s

Mrs. Teavee (Soprano; B3-F5): A timid housewife, who is Mike Teavee's permissive and clueless mother. She is run over by his aggression and powerless to stop him. Good natured and caring, but an enabler for Mike. Female Presenting 30’s-50’s

Adult Ensemble:

Oompa-Loompas: Willy Wonka’s odd, mysterious group of factory workers. Originally from Loompa Land. They are green-haired hard workers who share Wonka’s disdain for “ugly” behavior and offer moral anecdotes through song. Age: Child/Teen/Adult

Cooks Chorus: A legion of cooks who attend to Augustus’ never-ending appetite. Age: Teen/ Adult

Various other role and understudy opportunities.

Once pre-registration through this website is closed, auditionees may show up at the open call and complete their registration in person.
