HAIR, THE MUSICAL

Auditions for teens and young adults for Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical! Be a part of this killer rock musical with a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. The work reflects the creators' observations of the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the late 1960s, and several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement.

Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives, loves, and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. Ultimately, Claude must decide whether to resist the draft as his friends have done, or to serve in Vietnam, compromising his pacifist principles and risking his life.

This production will be a performed in a unique book-in-hand setting with full choreography and staging.

REQUIREMENTS

AUDITIONS: Time-slots starting at 7:15pm on Tuesday, December 7th. Actor's are required to sing a short vocal selection in in the style of the Show.
*Please research the Broadway Revival version of the show.
No tracks please. Bring your sheet music in the right key and properly marked. Have an additional song prepared if asked to sing more.
Actor's are asked to perform a short monologue of their choice or tell us a heartfelt humorous or serious personal story.
CALLBACKS: Callbacks will be held on December 9th at 6pm

Join Theatre South Playhouse for this PTP (Professional Training Production) of "Hair, The Musical!"

Audition time-slots on December 7th at 7:15-9pm with call backs on December 9th at 6pm.

Performances the weekend of March 3-6th
Rehearsals starting before Holiday Break on Weds/Thurs evenings and Saturday afternoons.

OTHER INFORMATION

The show is part of Theatre South's Professional Training Program. Our show fee directly pays for all aspects of this production.

We train/rehearse three days a week and a full performance weekend March 3-6th:
Three payments of $250 or one payment of $699.

**Performers over the age of 22 will be cast as community mentors and no fee is required.
