Theatre Winter Haven Announces Auditions for SHOUT! and THE WIZARD OF OZ *Adults and Teens ONLY*
REQUIREMENTS

Auditionees who are interested in being considered for SHOUT! or THE WIZARD OF OZ should prepare a 32-bar cut (about 1 minute) of a musical theatre song.

Legible sheet music must be provided for the audition pianist. No a cappella or prerecorded accompaniment will be permitted.

If you are invited to the callback, be prepared to learn a short movement combination and wear appropriate movement attire for the movement combination. Sneakers or dance shoes are okay, but no sandals, crocs or heels.

Additionally, auditionees who are called back may also read/sing (if applicable) from the show.

SHOUT! Character Descriptions:

All roles are open to female, female presenting, trans, and non-binary performers. Age range from 17 and up.

Blue Girl (High Soprano Belt; B flat to high C)
A blue-blooded fashion model. Sophisticated, poised, and cool. She is vain and not particularly friendly.
Gender: female
Age: 20 to 30

Yellow Girl (Alto with big rock diva belt; F below middle C to belt E flat)
A loud, uninhibited American girl driven by her emotions. She is a ray of sunshine with a surprising vulnerability. Possesses a big, rock diva belt.
Gender: female
Age: 25 to 35

Orange Girl (Soprano with belt; low b flat to high b flat)
The "mother" of the group. Domestic and maternal, she is wise, soulful, and mature. Slowly asserting her new-found independence.
Gender: female
Age: 35 to 45

Green Girl (Mezzo with a Shirley Bassey-like belt)
A good-time girl. Blousy, middle-class, and zany. She is a bit frayed at the edges, and hopelessly single. A comedian of sorts.
Gender: female
Age: 30 to 40

Red Girl (Soprano with belt; low b flat to high C)
The "baby" of the group, she is an exciting blend of youthful contradictions. Quirky, enthusiastic, and naïve. A hopeless romantic who is insecure about her looks.

Age: 18 to 25

THE WIZARD OF OZ Character Descriptions:

DOROTHY (Soprano; G3 - E5)
Female presenting. Young Kansas girl, earnest, expressive, and strong-willed, in search of something more. Very strong singer who moves well.

AUNT EM/GLINDA (Soprano or Mezzo; G3 to C5)
Female presenting, Aunt Em is demanding, but loves her niece. Glinda is the Good Witch of the North. Benevolent and beloved.

UNCLE HENRY/EMERALD CITY GUARD (Baritone; B flat 2 - E flat 4)
Male presenting. Uncle Henry is Dorothy’s pleasant uncle.

HUNK/SCARECROW (Tenor; B flat 2 - A flat 4)
Male presenting. Plucky and clever in a pinch, even while lacking a brain. Strong actor with an honest quality. Strong dancer – acrobatic skills a bonus.

HICKORY/TIN MAN (Tenor; B flat 2 - G4)
Male presenting. Desperate for a heart. A kind-hearted romantic. Strong dancer – tap skills a bonus.

ZEKE/COWARDLY LION (Baritone; B flat 2 - F4)
Male presenting. A mix of bravado and cowardice. Should move well. Cuddly actor with excellent comic timing.

MISS GULCH/WICKED WITCH (Non singing)
Female presenting. Character villain with an over-the-top stage presence. Excellent comic actress, has a killer cackle.

PROFESSOR MARVEL/WIZARD (Non singing)
Male presenting. Older father figure with an eccentric flair.

WINKIES/FLYING MONKEYS: Teens and Adults. The chorus of the show, with featured speaking/vocal/dancing roles available. Singing and movement required.

OZIANS / EMERALD CITY ENSEMBLE: All ages. The chorus of the show, with featured speaking/vocal/dancing roles available


OTHER INFORMATION

As an incentive to sign up for the audition with Auditions Manager, the first hour of each open call will be given over exclusively to those who pre-register through this service.

Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.

Once pre-registration through this website is closed, auditionees may show up at either open call and complete their registration in person.
