The Wedding Singer OVERVIEW: Book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herligy Music by Matthew Sklar and Lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Audience Audiences will fall head over heels with this campy musical that Variety’s reviewer called “a fizzy confection offering . . . easy enjoyment.” This rollicking nod to rock shows of the 1980s, features a pair of tuneful star-crossed love triangles which reinforce the “Awesome” lesson that while marrying because “It’s All About The Green” may look sensible, when you are “A Casualty of Love,” the best thing “Someday” when “It’s Your Wedding Day” is to marry for love (and music). Come to this show for light hearted, toe tapping, lightly romantic fun. The Wedding Singer was nominated for the 2006 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Musical.
Jekyll & Hyde OVERVIEW: Music by Frank Wildhorn, Lyrics by Frank Wildhorn, Leslie Bricusse & Steve Cuden. Book by Leslie Bricusse. Based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson. Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical (with its mad scientist, doomed love, serial murders, and a life-and-death struggle between good and evil) chills and thrills its audiences—a perfect, spooky treat for a tuneful delight during Halloween season. The play was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Musical and was the winner of the 1997 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical.
Holiday Inn OVERVIEW: Music & Lyrics by Irving Berlin, Libretto by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge. Based on the 1942 film, Holiday Inn – the original basis for White Christmas (minus the later film’s subplot about the retired general). Talented performers who are star crossed lovers- some longing for stardom and some for the love and stability of a very traditional home for all holidays – provide a stage for caroling and dancing to a dazzling array of the great Irbing Berlin’s apparently endless talents. Elyse Sommer’s review said that the show is a “trip back to sheer old-fashioned good-time entertainment”. Holiday Favorite tunes include “Blue Skies”, “Heat Wave”, “It’s a Lovely Day Today”, “Be Careful it’s my Heart”, “Happy Holiday”, and “White Christmas”.
