KINKY BOOTS at Theatre Winter Haven

Theatre Winter Haven, located in the Chain of Lakes Complex at 210 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, Winter Haven, FL, will hold AUDITIONS for KINKY BOOTS on Dec. 9 & 10. Rehearsals are slated to begin the last week of December.

The production will run for five weeks, February 20 through March 22, 2020. Performances are Thursdays through Sundays.

KINKY BOOTS is the winner of every major Best Musical award, including the Tony, the Grammy and London’s Olivier Award. Based on true events, this huge-hearted hit tells the story of two people with nothing in common—or so they think! Charlie is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learns to embrace their differences and creates a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen! But in the end, their most sensational achievement is their friendship.

KINKY BOOTS will be directed and choreographed by Sara Catherine Barnes with Music Direction by Philip King. This production is Co-Produced by Advanced Eyecare Associates, Hill Nissan, The Center for Retina and Macular Disease and Brad Dantzler, Raymond James & Associates

Auditions for all roles in KINKY BOOTS will be held at Theatre Winter Haven on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 pm and Tuesday, December 10 at 7:00 pm. For some roles, callbacks will be held on Wednesday & Thursday, December 11 & 12.

As an incentive to sign up with Auditions Manager, the first hour of each open call will be given over exclusively to those who pre-register through this service.

Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.

PRE-REGISTRATION THROUGH THIS SERVICE WILL CLOSE ON MONDAY 12/9 at 2 pm. All other auditionees may show up at either open call and complete their registration in person.

COMPANY

CHARLIE PRICE - Late twenties. A bit confused, a bit unfocused, a hero hiding under a victim’s mantle. Rock belt. (Tenor, Eb3-B4)

YOUNG CHARLIE - This is our lead as a seven year old boy. Lost, quiet, reflective. He works in the opening and closing sequences. (Unchanged voice, G4-D5)

LOLA/SIMON - Early thirties. A prize fighter’s physique draped in satin. A heterosexual cross-dresser with a killer voice and winning ways. (Tenor, D#3-C5)

YOUNG LOLA/SIMON - This is LOLA as a ten year old boy who already knows he’s destined to wear high heels. (Unchanged voice, G3-D5)

NICOLA - Twenties. Charlie’s long-term girlfriend. Driven, uncompromising. Pop voice. (Mezzo/belter, E3-F5)

LAUREN - Twenties. Beautiful and strong working class girl. Belt and pop. (Soprano/belter, Bb3-F5)

DON - Lola’s nemesis. Burly hypermasculine bear of a factory worker. (Baritone, A2-A4, D5 in falsetto)

PAT - Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when allowed. Lola’s love interest. (Mezzo/belter, Eb4-Eb5)

TRISH - Factory worker with a husband and kids to worry over. (Mezzo/belter, B3-Db5)

GEORGE - Factory manager keeping up traditions. Reserved. (Baritone or Tenor, Eb3-G4)

THE ANGELS - These are the drag performers who populate THE BLUE ANGEL NIGHTCLUB. This ain’t a job for no wall-flowers.

SIMON SR - Lola’s father. An unforgiving tower of anger. HE works in the opening, and two scenes in ACT TWO. Otherwise he will play the HOMELESS MAN, A FACTORY WORKER etc. (Ensemble singing only)

HARRY - A contemporary of Charlie’s but his opposite. HARRY is successful, self aware and confident. During the rest of the show he will be a FACTORY WORKER, PHOTOGRAPHER etc. (Baritone, F#3-F#4)

RICHARD BAILEY - Nicola’s boss. An overtly attractive and
successful man. One of the HOOLIGANS in Act One. Otherwise, FACTORY WORKER etc. ( Ensemble singing only)

GUIDELINES

ALL auditionees should prepare 16 to 32 bars from an appropriate musical theatre or pop/rock song.

PLEASE NOTE: Legible sheet music must be provided for the rehearsal pianist/music director. No recorded accompaniment, a cappella auditions, or chord charts will be allowed.

Please dress appropriately for singing and dancing.
