Seeking Adult Actors Non-union (18+) and 1 Child Actor (10-14yrs)

The Athens Theatre strongly encourages and welcomes performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, Gender-Nonconforming, Non-Binary, shapes, sizes, and actors with varying abilities to submit for any of the roles below with the understanding that there are individual characters that may identify as a woman or man.

Please submit a headshot, résumé, a 16-32-bar cut of singing in the style of the show, and a dance reel (if available).

Submissions must be submitted through the Auditions Manager by Sunday, December 29, at 11:59 pm.

Callbacks are by invitation only and will be held at the Athens Rehearsal Hall on Sunday, January 5, from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

In this Americanized musical stage version adapted from the 1997 British film of the same name, six unemployed Buffalo steelworkers, low on both cash and prospects, decide to present a strip act at a local club after seeing their wives' enthusiasm for a touring company of Chippendales. As they prepare for the show, working through their fears, self-consciousness, and anxieties, they overcome their inner demons and find strength in their camaraderie.

SPECIAL NOTE:

*If you are auditioning for Dave, Jerry, Ethan, Malcolm, Harold, Horse, and Buddy, you must be comfortable enough to perform on stage in your underwear and, eventually, a G-string or nudity (the audience will not see full nudity). Auditionees for these roles should be prepared to do so in performances and Dress Tech rehearsals and agree to such to be considered for these roles. You will not need to undress at auditions.
Trust is crucial for our production. You will be treated respectfully, and our final moment will be rehearsed and performed carefully yet powerfully.

* Parents should familiarize themselves with the script and its content before booking an audition for their child. Written parental permission will be required for Nathan's role.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

JERRY LUKOWSKI (Male-presenting, 30s-50s). An unemployed mill worker fighting to maintain his pride and the custody of his only son. He is a complex emotional character, prideful, earnest, and desperate, yet still holding on to hope that he can turn his life around.
Vocal Range: B2-Db5

DAVE BUKATINSKY (Male-presenting, 20s-50s). Jerry’s best friend and fellow unemployed mill worker. A lovable, good-natured soul with body weight and self-esteem issues. The definitive sidekick.
Vocal range: B2-Db5

ETHAN GIRARD (Male-presenting, 20s-40s). An unemployed mill worker. Lonely. Has a blind determination and confidence to succeed. His affection for Malcolm is openly genuine and uncomplicated—a good physical comedy role.
Vocal range: F2 - Bb5

MALCOLM McGregor (Male-presenting, 20s-50s). An unemployed mill worker. He lives at home with his mother. A lonely guy, depressed and isolated, finds a new purpose in life through the plan to strip—a mama’s boy.
Vocal range: C3- E5

HAROLD NICHOLS (Male-presenting, 40s-60s) An unemployed supervisor at the mill lying to his wife about his lack of a job, desperate to keep her from worrying. Aloof at first, his dance skills are what finally, and arduously, bring Hot Metal choreography alive.
Vocal range: F2-Bb4.

NOAH “HORSE” T. SIMMONS (Male-presenting black man, 40s-60s) A retired mill worker and a great dancer, despite his advancing arthritis. Cynical, but willing to give this thing a try.
Vocal range: D3 - B5

BUDDY KENO WALSH (Male-presenting, 20s-40s). He is a handsome and experienced male stripper. He is realistic about what he does and why. May double in other roles.

NATHAN LUKOWSKI (Male-presenting, 10-14yrs). He is sincere and charming but ultimately honest as he deals with his parents’ custody battle. He starts by being tired of his dad’s lack of motivation but ends up believing in his dad and supporting him.

*PARENTS: We will see actors 10 - 14 years old. The show is Rated PG-13 for language and adult themes. Nathan sees and hears adult-themed content and critically drops the "F" word once during the show.

GEORGIE BUKATINSKY (Female-presenting, 20s-50s) Dave’s wife. She loves her husband and worries about him. A warm, down-to-earth soul that isn’t afraid to kick up her heels. She is the "leader" of her group of girlfriends. Her exuberance opens the show, and the reality of dealing with her hubby’s struggles hits hard.
Vocal range: F3 - A5

JEANETTE BURMEISTER (Female-presenting, 30s-60s) - A piano player of indeterminate years and show-business pro. She’s seen it all and been there before. Sassy, quick-witted, and larger than life.
Vocal range: F3 - B4

VICKI NICHOLS (Female-presenting, 30s-60s). Harold’s wife is emotionally more potent than she seems and definitely stronger than Harold thinks she is. She enjoys the finer things in life but loves her husband more than anything and supports him no matter what.
Vocal range: G3 - A5

ENSEMBLE: (any gender, 18+) Looking for a strong ensemble, dancers, non-dancers, and singers. The ensemble will play multiple roles, such as Estelle Genovese, Susan Hershey, Joanie Lish, Dolores, Molly McGregor, Reg Willoughby, Tony Giordano, Marty, and Gary, and will double in other roles.
