Seeking actors ages 18+ / 7-12yrs for Chip (non-union)

The Athens Theatre strongly encourages and welcomes performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, Gender-Nonconforming, Non-Binary, shapes, sizes, and actors with varying abilities to submit for any of the roles below with the understanding that there are individual characters that may identify as a woman or man.

Please submit a headshot, résumé, a 16-32-bar cut of singing in the show's style, and a dance reel (if available).

Submissions must be submitted through Auditions Manager by Sunday, April 28, at 11:59 pm.

Callbacks are by invitation only and will be held at the Athens Theatre on Monday, May 6, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end, and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

Before auditioning, please consider the necessary level of commitment. Please carefully note the rehearsal period and be honest about your availability within it.

Belle (Female presenting, 20s, any ethnicity)

A young woman with an independent spirit and a love of reading who exudes natural beauty
She is a strong, intelligent, spirited, and independent young woman. Belle is the moral conscience of the story, elevated by her thoughts and deeds. The maturity and depth of her character allow her to see the true beauty and spirit within The Beast and to love him for it. This role requires a very strong singer who portrays innocence with her singing and speaking voice.

Beast (Male presenting, 20s - 40s, any ethnicity)

The cursed Prince and head of the castle. His tortured soul is evident for all to see. He is paying the ultimate price for a moment of mean-spiritedness and wishes beyond wishing that he could rectify his mistake. There is anger and menace in The Beast’s appearance and behavior, but increasingly, we see his soft and endearing side as he interacts with Belle. This role requires a very strong singer, and the actor must have a strong speaking voice and stage presence.

Mrs. Potts (Female presenting, 30s – 60s, any ethnicity)

A sweet, warm, kind-hearted head of the kitchen staff and mother to Chip. A very strong singer is needed for this role as Mrs. Potts sings the title song, Beauty and the Beast. This character speaks with a British accent.
Vocal range: Top: G5/ Bottom: F#3

Gaston (Male presenting, 20s - 40s, any ethnicity)

A rude, narcissistic hunter who assumes the world belongs to him, he is the absolute antithesis of The Beast. Although he is physically handsome, he is shallow, completely self-centered, not very bright, and thrives on attention. However, when his ego is bruised, he becomes a very dangerous foe for The Beast, Belle, and Maurice. This role requires a strong singer and character actor who moves well.

Lumiere (Male presenting, 20s - 50s, any ethnicity)

A charming French valet who fancies himself a ladies’ man and becomes a candelabra.He is light-hearted, suave, romantic, smooth-talking, and charming. This character speaks with a French accent. This role requires strong character acting, and he should move well.
Vocal range: Top: F#4/ Bottom: F#2

Cogsworth (Male presenting, 20s – 60s, any ethnicity)

An officious, excitable English major domo becomes a mantle clock. He is the head of the Beast’s household, a stuffy English man who loves perfection. This character speaks with a British accent, and this role requires strong character acting.
Vocal range: Top: E4/ Bottom: A2

Lefou (Male presenting, 20s – 40s, any ethnicity)

Gaston’s fawning friend, not too bright. He goes to extraordinary lengths and suffers repeated humiliation in his efforts to please Gaston. The actor must be comfortable with physical comedy, and the role requires strong character acting.

Maurice (Male presenting, 40s – 60s, any ethnicity)

Belle’s slightly addled genius inventor father. He is kind, gentle, enthusiastic, and inventive. He becomes single-minded and determined when Belle faces danger.
Vocal range: Top: Db4/ Bottom: Bb2

Babette (Female presenting, 18+, any ethnicity)

The flirtatious maid who becomes a feather duster and the object of Lumiere's affection. Should move well. This character speaks with a French accent.
Vocal range: Top: F5/ Bottom: C4

Madame de la Grande Bouche (Female presenting, 20s – 60s, any ethnicity)

A former opera diva turned enchanted wardrobe. This character speaks with a French accent.
Vocal range: Top: D5/ Bottom: C#4

Les Filles De La Ville (3) (aka Three Silly Girls) (Female presenting, 18+, any ethnicity)

A group of Gaston’s fanatical female followers energetically pursue him in the hopes of winning. They are featured dancers.

Chip (any gender, 7 – 12, any ethnicity)

Mrs. Potts’s hopeful young son; becomes a teacup.
Vocal range: Top: F5/ Bottom: A3

Monsieur D'arque (Male presenting, 20+, any ethnicity)

Proprietor of the local insane asylum. Plays elderly but must be agile; is the creepy, scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum, The Maison De Lune. This character speaks with a French accent.
Vocal range: Top: A4/ Bottom: D3

Ensemble (18+, any ethnicity, open to all)

The ensemble is very busy throughout the show. Roles include Villagers, Castle Staff, Wolves, Shepherd, Marie, Tavern Master, Laundry Lady, Baker, Milkmaid, Flower Seller, Sausage Curl Lady, Candle Maker, Hat Seller, Bookseller, Cronies, various enchanted objects, including a Gargoyle, Flatware, Napkins, Young Prince, Old Beggar Woman/Enchantressand and many featured Parts.
